Assignment 8: Get a Get-Together Together (01/13)
I’ve thought up two options that I’d love to do in my newly refreshed apartment – dinner with the girls on Saturday night, or Brunch with the boys on Sunday morning. As much as I would love to get my girlfriends together, it’s just about impossible once you factor in our schedules and local geography. Two weeks notice is too just not enough time. I equally love all my male friends though, and I know they will jump at the chance to feast on waffles and mimosas, so brunch it is! I hope to get the girls together later in February or March. I do so miss those ladies!
Other cure notes for the day: I finished installing the shelf from the weekend (stupid power drill battery), and put together the bookcase as well. The two major additions to the craft corner are complete!
Assignment 9: Create a Landing Strip (01/14)
Being a veteran reader of Apartment Therapy, I am well versed in the language of the landing strip. Have one, love it, use it every day. Just a gentle refresh (so dusty!) and getting rid of the junk that has piled up below.
Bonus item: I cleaned up the hall closet some, adding a tap light and getting rid of some empty boxes and such. I also repaired a teeny telephone table I found on the street a while ago. A little wood glue and some nails and we’re good to go. My neighbor probably hates me though as it turns out it was much later than I thought when I started pounding away. She didn’t knock on my door, but she did turn up the midnight salsa music. Oops!
Assignment 10: Unplug for an Evening – Try a Media Fast (01/15)
The media fast was fun, but I lost track of time. I’m used to checking my phone for the time and I so I set an alarm. Glad I did or I would have worked right through till the morning. I just cooked dinner, hung out with the dog, and got a jump start on cleaning the bedroom. So messy! Sorted and hung up clothes, sorted laundry, removed stuff that doesn’t belong, and switched out the bulky square table I was using as a nightstand for my newly spruced up telephone stand (though I’m not sure about this last bit, it looks a little too small in the space).
Assignment 11: Project Progress (01/16)
I definitely folded this into the weekend and took the night off to catch up on other chores. Ick. Dishes.
Assignment 12: Weekend Chores – Flowers, Bedroom Cleaning and Wardrobe Organizing (01/17-19)
In lieu of flowers, I finally replaced the lemon tree that died in the fall with a really nice snake plant. I already installed the shelf and set-up the bookcase for my project, and sorted through photos to find the ones I wanted to upgrade to matching frames.
On Saturday I made what will hopefully be my one big shopping trip. I bought every decent frame in Target, and all the organizing odds and ends I will hopefully need – hooks for scarves, a clock for the kitchen, plate hangers, frame hangers, storage boxes – so much stuff! I’ve got it in my head that while I’m framing and hanging the poster from Cleveland, I might as well just hang the rest of my family photos that go on the same wall. Other than getting (almost) everything, I didn’t make too much progress, and I wore myself out.
On Sunday I was sick, blegh, no progress. Fortunately, three day weekend!
On Monday, I was very productive but made very little progress on the bedroom; fortunately I’d already gotten a little ahead on the media fast night. The scarf solution went up, the room finished being decluttered, and I tweaked the nightstand/book situation, again. What I made huge progress on was my backyard. Not strictly part of the cure, but the shared garden in the backyard was a wreck. There was a small tree’s worth of branches that had been cut down and left last summer that now had vine and grass growing around and through them. One giant city garbage can and 4 additional bags of trimmings later, and the backyard is once again free and clear!
